Gestern Abend fand die 93. Oscarverleihung unter strengen hygienischen Regeln und mit Maßnahmen eines COVID-19-Sicherheitsprotokolls statt. Man entschied sich für eine intimere Zeremonie, die einer Dinner-Theater-Atmosphäre glich. Nur die Nominierten und ihre Gäste waren im Raum oder wurden per Satellit zugeschaltet. Man sah einer gesprächigen Runde zu, die auf das Abbrechen der Dankesreden verzichtete. Man war bemüht unter den Umständen einen netten Abend zu kreieren. Die Überraschung des Abends war sicherlich, dass die Vergabe des Oscars für den besten Film nicht die letzte Preisübergabe war. Danach folgten noch die Kategorien der besten Schauspieler. Vielleicht hoffte man auf einen emotionalen Ausklang, indem Chadwick Boseman postum den Oscar erhalten sollte. Da allerdings Anthony Hopkins für seine schauspielerische Leistung in THE FATHER den Oscar als bester Hauptdarsteller erhielt, nicht zugegen war und den Preis nicht persönlich entgegennehmen konnte, erfüllte sich diese Hoffnung nicht. Ein komisches Ende, aber eine verdiente Ehre. Hopkins spielt in THE FATHER den 80jährigen Vater von Anne, die zunehmend die Geduld mit ihm verliert, denn der alte Mann muss in der geschmackvoll eingerichteten Londoner Wohnung aufgrund seiner Demenz immer mehr betreut werden. Anne möchte aber mit ihrem Mann nach Paris ziehen und ihr Vater bekommt mit, dass in seiner Wohnung ständig Änderungen vorgenommen werden. Großer Gewinner des Abends war NOMADLAND.

NOMADLAND erzählt die Geschichte von Fern, die, wie viele in den USA, nach der großen Rezension im Jahre 2008 alles verloren hat. Fern packt, nachdem ihre Region einen wirtschaftlichen Zusammenbruch erlitt, ihre Sachen und bricht mit ihrem Van auf. Sie erkundet das Leben außerhalb der konventionellen Regeln als moderne Nomadin. 

NOMADLAND hat neben dem Oscar für den besten Film auch den Oscar für die beste Schauspielerin und die beste Regie gewonnen.

SOUND OF METAL, THE FATHER, MA RAINEY'S BLACK BOTTOM, SOUL, MANK und JUDAS AND THE BLACK MESSIAH nahmen jeweils zwei Preise mit nach Hause, während PROMISING YOUNG WOMAN, ANOTHER ROUND, MY OCTOPUS TEACHER und MINARI einen erzielten.

Netflix hat die ersten Bilder zu MANK veröffentlicht, dem neuen Film von David Fincher. In dem Schwarz-Weiß-Streifen erzählt Fincher aus dem Leben des Drehbuchautors Herman J. Mankiewicz, gespielt von Gary Oldman. Mankiewicz arbeitet darin gerade an dem Film CITIZEN KANE mit Regisseur Orson Welles zusammen. 

Das Meisterwerk CITIZEN KANE stammt bereits aus dem Jahre 1941 und landet bei vielen persönlichen Bestenlisten ganz weit oben und wird von einer Menge Filmfans als der beste Film aller Zeiten betitelt. Der Film handelt aus dem Leben des US-amerikanischen Zeitungsriesen Charles Foster Kane, gespielt von Orson Welles.
